Dr Barbara Brownie leads online postgraduate study for MA Graphic Design and MA Illustration, and is director of the professional doctorate programmes DFA (Doctor of Fine Art) and DDes (Doctor of Design), at the University of Hertfordshire. Barbara has a PhD in The Behaviours of Fluid Characterforms in Temporal Typography. She has two main research interests: typography and costume. Research related to each of these themes can be accessed via the main menu of this site.

Barbara is currently working on Spacewear: Weightlessness and the Final Frontier of Fashion. This forms part of a larger investigation into design for weightlessness, which is to be conducted in collaboration with UHArts. Student work for the Design for Weightlessness project can be viewed here.
